Alhamdulillah, these past couple of days marked an important milestone for Muslims in Nova Scotia with NCCM’s first-ever Atlantic Leadership Summit and Advocacy Day in the province.
On Sunday, Muslim leaders, students, and community stakeholders from across Nova Scotia came together for the Leadership Summit to discuss our community’s priorities and build a coordinated strategy for the year ahead.
On Monday, NCCM, alongside leaders from masajid, community organizations, and MSAs across the province, met with elected officials from all three levels of government to advocate directly on issues critical to Nova Scotia’s Muslim community.
Alhamdulillah, we are already seeing concrete results. The Province has announced a new Faith-Based Community Safety Grant Program, developed following engagement with NCCM and other community leaders, providing funding to help at-risk faith communities strengthen safety and security. In addition, a motion committing to further action on Islamophobia, introduced by MLA Lina Hamid, passed unanimously in the Nova Scotia Legislature today.
We are proud that Sabeel’s leadership team participated in both the Summit and Advocacy Day, with members of our Youth Committee playing an important role in meetings and discussions throughout the day. It was especially meaningful to see our youth at the table, contributing their voices to conversations affecting the future of our community.
